Perplexity AI has launched Perplexity Patents, an innovative tool that transforms patent research through AI-driven natural language queries, making intellectual property (IP) intelligence accessible to a wider audience. Announced by CEO Aravind Srinivas, this beta platform allows users to ask questions like “Are there any patents on AI for language learning?” and receive relevant patent collections with direct document links. Unlike traditional patent databases, Perplexity Patents simplifies the search process, eliminating the need for specialized search terms and technical jargon. The tool supports follow-up questions and context retention, enhancing user experience. It also identifies conceptual similarities across patents and draws insights from diverse sources, including academic papers and open-source repositories, aiding engineers, researchers, and businesses. Currently available for free, Perplexity Patents offers expanded features for Pro and Max subscribers. Additionally, Perplexity plans to introduce Perplexity Scholar to further support academic research.
