AT&T sues T-Mobile US over “Easy Switch” tool, alleges AI-driven data scraping

T-Mobile has launched its “Easy Switch” tool, enabling new customers to join its network in as little as 15 minutes through the T-Life app. This innovative onboarding feature, powered by AI, analyzes existing accounts from competitors like AT&T and Verizon, suggesting optimal T-Mobile plans and benefits. However, AT&T has filed a federal lawsuit against T-Mobile, alleging that its Easy Switch tool unlawfully scrapes customer data from AT&T’s secure systems without permission. Following complaints about unauthorized access, AT&T implemented security measures to block T-Mobile’s scraping attempts, only to have T-Mobile allegedly adjust its tool to bypass these protections. Despite T-Mobile’s removal of certain scraping features, AT&T claims that data extraction continues, including from Verizon customers. T-Mobile’s CEO has positioned the Easy Switch initiative as part of the company’s strategy to disrupt the wireless market and streamline the customer onboarding process, aiming to gain a competitive edge over legacy carriers.
