Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, honored Mohannad Atef from the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) for winning the Best AI Agent Award at the International Geomechanics Conference in Saudi Arabia. Competing against 425 global participants, Atef and his team developed an AI-driven model that enhances geotechnical data extraction and drilling precision. The minister emphasized support for young talent and digital innovation within the ministry and its affiliates. Badawi reviewed ongoing EUG operations, focusing on exploration, production activities, and the application of AI technologies to boost operational efficiency. He praised the contributions of young professionals in advancing digital transformation in the petroleum sector and underlined the significance of implementing Atef’s project as a practical model for production companies. Established in 2021, EUG centralizes Egypt’s subsurface data, facilitating exploration and enhancing competitiveness in the petroleum landscape through integrated, accessible geological information.
