Nimrod Hauser, Founding Engineer at Baz, recently discussed integrating third-party tools with agentic applications in his talk, “Bending a Public MCP Server without Breaking It: A Developer’s Guide to Production-Ready Integration.” With nearly 20 years of experience, including roles at Salesforce, Hauser explored the complexities surrounding Multi-Server Communication Protocol (MCP) servers and agentic tools, which can lead to integration challenges such as unexpected behavior, poor agent performance, and security risks. To mitigate these issues, he proposed five best practices: curate third-party tools to avoid “context pollution,” wrap tools for tailored functionality, implement deterministic guardrails for safety, compose new tools from existing ones for specificity, and occasionally treat tools as functions for better execution control. Hauser demonstrated these principles using Baz’s spec reviewer tool, showcasing how clear tool descriptions and thoughtful integration enhance agent reliability and performance.
