On January 11, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance presented its manifesto for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, emphasizing urban infrastructure, public services, and technology-driven governance. Key proposals include using artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in Mumbai, with plans to collaborate with IITs for tool development. The manifesto also promises a 50% fare concession for women on BEST buses, metro expansions, and enhanced suburban railway services featuring AC coaches and sliding doors.
In terms of housing, the alliance aims to ensure all BMC sanitation workers own homes and accelerate slum redevelopment. Other commitments include interest-free loans for women entrepreneurs, better healthcare facilities, a flood control plan involving IIT-led studies, and initiatives to elevate civic hospitals to AIIMS standards. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated these plans would transform Mumbai into an international city within five years, enhancing residents’ quality of life.
