ByteDance has unveiled Seedream 4.0, an advanced image generation tool that reportedly outperforms Google DeepMind’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (“Nano Banana”). This new tool boasts superior image editing capabilities and excels in prompt adherence and aesthetics, according to internal testing benchmarks, although no official report has been released. Seedream 4.0 accelerates image inference more than tenfold compared to its predecessors and has received positive early feedback for its precision in editing through text prompts.
Seedream 4.0 integrates text-to-image features from Seedream 3.0 and editing functionalities from SeedEdit 3.0, priced competitively at $30 per 1,000 generations, slightly lower than Gemini’s $39 per 1,000. As competition intensifies among AI image generation tools in China, with support from the government for AI-generated content, platforms like Vidu are emerging. Overall, ByteDance’s Seedream 4.0 positions itself as a formidable competitor in the generative AI market.
