Can Qatar's Qai catch up with UAE's G42 and Saudi Arabia's Humain?- The Week

Qatar is launching Qai, a subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority, to enhance AI infrastructure both locally and globally, following the UAE’s G42 and Saudi Arabia’s Humain. Based in Doha, Qai aims to offer “high-performance computing” and a comprehensive suite of AI tools. Abdulla Al-Misnad, the company’s chair, emphasized the importance of developing “trusted” AI solutions to meet the needs of individuals and businesses. To compete effectively with G42 and Humain, Qatar must secure licenses for AI chips from leading manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD. Meanwhile, G42 has recently received US approval for AI semiconductor exports, facilitating AI projects such as the Stargate UAE cluster. Saudi Arabia’s Humain is also advancing AI capabilities, with plans to invest in data centers and cloud technology, aiming to be the third-largest AI market globally. Qatar’s Qai’s success will hinge on strategic partnerships and technology acquisitions as it enters the competitive AI landscape.
