Canva has launched a groundbreaking feature, Magic Layers, currently in public beta in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. This innovative tool allows users to transform flat images and AI-generated visuals into fully editable designs, enabling individual selection of design components like objects and text. According to Canva’s chief product officer, Cameron Adams, Magic Layers provides the creative freedom to edit without starting over, thus enhancing workflow efficiency. While initially supporting single-page PNG and JPEG files, the feature is set to expand further. Unlike other design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, which adds generated elements to separate layers, Magic Layers automatically breaks down entire images into components. This functionality gives creators more manual control over edits and may blur the lines between AI-generated and original designs, offering a new way for artists to demonstrate their creative contributions. This advancement positions Canva as a leader in integrating generative AI in digital design.
