ChatGPT launches pilot group chats across Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan

OpenAI recently rolled out a group chat feature for ChatGPT, currently in testing phases in regions like Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan. This feature is accessible to Free, Plus, and Team users on mobile and web platforms, allowing for collaborative conversations within the app. It represents a “small first step” towards enhancing shared experiences in ChatGPT. Users can easily create group chats by tapping the people icon and inviting 1 to 20 participants, while ensuring privacy through invitation-only access. Key functionalities include search, image generation, and file uploads, with ChatGPT’s usage limits applying only to AI responses. Notably, interactions between human users do not count towards these limits. OpenAI emphasizes user feedback will help shape the feature’s future expansion. This initiative signifies OpenAI’s shift from a simple AI tool to a more interactive social platform, further supported by its recent launch of Sora 2, a social media app for sharing AI-driven content.
