OpenAI’s ChatGPT, despite its initial dominance in the AI chatbot market, is facing increasing competition from rivals like Google Gemini and xAI’s Grok, along with notable Chinese contenders such as Qwen and DeepSeek. Recent SimilarWeb data indicates that ChatGPT’s market share has declined by 13 percentage points over the past year, now standing at 74.1%. Google Gemini has risen to the second position with a share of 12.9%, boosted by its viral Nano Banana model. Perplexity AI has also made gains, increasing from 1.7% to 2.4%. Conversely, DeepSeek has struggled, dropping from a peak of 6.8% to 3.7%. Grok AI, associated with Elon Musk, has seen its share decrease from 3.1% to 2.0%, while Microsoft’s Copilot and Anthropic’s Claude remain stable with minor increases. This competitive landscape highlights the evolving dynamics of the AI market, emphasizing the necessity for innovation to maintain market position.
