Data from AppMagic reveals that ChatGPT experienced over 902 million downloads from January to November 2025, surpassing TikTok by nearly 200 million and leaving Instagram trailing by about 380 million. This surge pushed ChatGPT’s total downloads to 1.36 billion since its launch, a remarkable feat for an app that has gained significant traction in under three years. The rapid rise of OpenAI’s ChatGPT underscores the swift transition of artificial intelligence from niche technology to a mainstream global phenomenon. As the flagship platform of generative AI, ChatGPT is driving a burgeoning AI ecosystem, reflecting user engagement and adoption akin to TikTok’s early trajectory. While TikTok remains the second-most-downloaded app with 703 million installs, Instagram follows with 521.6 million. Facebook, WhatsApp, and Temu complete the top five, with downloads ranging from 404 to 444 million. Google’s Gemini app is the only other AI entrant in the top ten with 392 million installs.
