He warned against AI overshadowing human decision-making in judgments, stating that transparency and accountability must not be compromised. Justice Kant highlighted AI’s potential to assist in handling vast data, identifying patterns, and reducing procedural delays but insisted that the final rulings must rest with judges, relying on their reasoning and experience.
Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru raised concerns about AI’s evolving role, questioning whether it would supplement or replace human judgment. He discussed opportunities like predictive analysis and online dispute resolution, while insisting on the necessity for safeguards ensuring judicial independence and legality. Bar Association President Prashant Kumar noted that AI has improved accessibility and communication, particularly in rural areas, through rapid translation of court judgments into local languages, enhancing the justice delivery process.
