Clemson finalizes partnership with OpenAI, securing ChatGPT Edu

On Tuesday, Clemson University announced a partnership with OpenAI to enhance access to ChatGPT for students and faculty. This collaboration will introduce ChatGPT Edu, an educational version of the platform offering increased message limits tailored for academic use. According to Clemson News, information shared on Clemson’s ChatGPT model will be secure and not used for training external AI models. Provost J. Cole Smith expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting Clemson’s focus on a human-centered approach to AI. The project is part of the Clemson University AI Initiative, launched in January to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration aimed at improving educational methodologies. It is led by Mitch Shue and Nathan McNeese, experts in AI and human-centered computing. Shue noted AI’s transformative impact on learning, while McNeese emphasized the importance of thoughtful AI design. This initiative aims to ethically explore AI technology and enhance the overall educational experience at Clemson.
