Combating Cybercrime: The Role of AI Tools in Nigeria and Beyond

0

Yesh Surjoodeen, Managing Director of HP Southern Africa, highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addressing IT challenges for businesses in Nigeria and across the Middle East and Africa. As cyberattacks escalate in frequency and complexity, AI tools are becoming essential for cybersecurity, with HP Solutions resolving over 11 million IT issues monthly. Notably, small and mid-sized enterprises are increasingly falling victim to cyber threats, with Kaspersky’s report indicating that 17.5% of Nigerian users faced web-based threats in 2025. This rise in cybercrime, especially in sectors like manufacturing and finance, is attributed to low cybersecurity awareness. Companies are urged to adopt proactive strategies, but budget constraints hinder many. HP’s integration of AI enhances IT performance, enabling real-time threat detection and robust security measures through its HP Wolf Security, while also streamlining device monitoring with its Workplace Experience platform. This approach helps businesses safeguard against ransomware and malware effectively.
