While Google asserts that user privacy is preserved due to end-to-end encryption, many users express concerns about potential data access. Gemini’s presence raises questions about privacy, as it can interact with metadata and notifications, even without reading actual message content.
To mitigate privacy risks, users must actively disable AI features, particularly since Gemini’s integration is enabled by default in WhatsApp and Google Messages. This means disabling AI activity elsewhere doesn’t affect its operation within these apps. To regain control over your chats, navigate to the Gemini app settings, select “Apps,” find WhatsApp, and toggle the integration off. Being proactive about your data privacy is essential, especially when AI features come with inherent trade-offs.
