Disney and OpenAI Partnership: Key Highlights and Industry Insights
On December 12, 2025, Disney partnered with OpenAI, making it the first major content partner on Sora, OpenAI’s generative AI video platform. The three-year agreement allows Sora to create user-driven short videos using over 200 characters from Disney’s vast IP portfolio, including Marvel and Star Wars. Importantly, the deal excludes any talent likenesses or voices. Disney also invested $1 billion in OpenAI, emphasizing the significance of AI in modern storytelling. In contrast, Disney accused Google of extensive copyright infringement concerning its content on YouTube. Meanwhile, global advertising spend is forecasted to grow 8.9% this year to $1.19 trillion, largely attributed to gains from Big Tech platforms. Notably, 56% of US consumers use generative AI regularly, presenting new advertising opportunities, especially in the gaming sector, which continues to rise in popularity.
