On October 23, 2025, GitHub announced the deprecation of several models across all GitHub Copilot experiences, including Copilot Chat and code completions. The deprecated models include Claude Sonnet 3.7 and its “Thinking” variant, Claude Opus 4, and various GPT models, all transitioning to their latest versions. Suggested alternatives include Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and the GPT-5 series. Users are encouraged to update their workflows and integrations to utilize these supported models. Copilot Enterprise administrators may need to enable access to these alternatives through model policies in their settings. To verify availability, administrators should check their Copilot settings for the enabled model policy. Deprecation does not require any action from users to remove the obsolete models.
