Co-founder Kevin Rose is shifting focus to revitalize Digg while maintaining an advisory role at Tru Ventures. Despite its intent to create a robust community for sharing links and media, Digg has faced challenges with spam and AI bot attacks since its beta launch. CEO Justin Mezzell highlighted upon launch, the platform was inundated with SEO spammers, reflecting a broader issue impacting the internet. Although Digg has blocked thousands of accounts, these measures proved insufficient. Competing effectively with platforms like Reddit has also posed challenges for Digg. While the exact number of layoffs remains undisclosed, a small team is working on a new version of the platform. The Digg app has been removed from the App Store, though Rose’s podcast, Diggnation, will continue.
