The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is leveraging a new AI tool, the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool, to potentially eliminate 50% of federal regulations, as reported by The Washington Post. This initiative aims to analyze approximately 200,000 federal regulations to identify those no longer legally necessary, targeting completion by the first anniversary of President Donald Trump’s potential return to office. The tool’s impact appears to be in progress, with its application at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where it reportedly assisted in crafting all deregulations. While a White House spokesperson indicated that no definitive plan has been approved, they acknowledged the DOGE team’s expertise. DOGE, which had ties to Elon Musk early in the Trump administration, has previously developed various AI tools, despite some challenges related to accuracy. This endeavor reflects a significant move towards utilizing AI for government regulatory reform.
