Dragon Quest X will partner with Google Gemini to implement an in-game AI chatbot

During the Dragon Quest X Spring Festival 2026, developers unveiled an innovative AI chatbot named “Chatty Slimey,” powered by Google Gemini’s generative AI. This engaging feature appears as a Slime monster and can be integrated as a UI widget, offering voiced responses to player queries. Dragon Quest X, a long-standing MMORPG exclusive to Japan since 2012, has garnered a dedicated player base, with some utilizing translation tools to play in English.

Jack Buser from Google and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii announced this collaboration aiming to enhance player engagement with the game. A closed beta for Chatty Slimey will recruit participants from March 21 to March 30, 2026. Square Enix’s new CEO, Takashi Kiryu, previously emphasized the company’s plan to leverage AI for innovative game content, productivity improvements, and marketing advancements.
