AI tool built by 8 students now helping IITs map and fix India’s welfare gap

A team of eight undergraduate engineers has launched EmpowerHub, an AI platform developed within six months to enhance welfare access in India. Funded by the Ministry of Education’s ICSSR under the Vikshit Bharat programme, EmpowerHub is already utilized by researchers at IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Dharwad. This platform features dashboards that help researchers and policymakers monitor usage, demographics, and engagement patterns to identify regional discrepancies. The project targets the critical issue of why eligible citizens miss out on government welfare schemes due to scattered and outdated information across multiple portals. Utilizing a sophisticated AI matching algorithm, EmpowerHub continuously updates data from official sources, ensuring accurate scheme recommendations in multiple languages. This project is a testament to the capability of students to create impactful technology, aligning with national policy objectives and improving public access to government benefits. EmpowerHub signals a promising shift in India’s public-tech infrastructure landscape.
