The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), under Elon Musk, has launched an AI tool aimed at streamlining federal regulations. Reported by The Washington Post, this initiative aligns with the Trump administration’s goal to reduce federal rules by 50% by January 2026. The “DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool” reviews around 200,000 regulations, targeting up to 100,000 for elimination. Initially, it has assessed regulations in agencies like HUD and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This effort stems from an executive order by President Trump mandating the repeal of ten regulations for every new one introduced. Despite internal concerns about the AI’s accuracy and its legal implications, the Trump administration plans to extend its use across all federal agencies. James Burnham, a former DOGE legal chief, praised the AI’s role in advancing deregulation. This tool is expected to significantly reduce the labor needed for deregulation, enhancing government efficiency.
