The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has launched transformative digital initiatives to modernize Gram Panchayats, as outlined by the Press Information Bureau on September 25. Key reforms include AI-driven meeting documentation, drone-assisted property surveys, and mobile apps for enhanced local governance transparency and citizen engagement. The SVAMITVA scheme, initiated on April 24, 2020, leverages drones to provide legal ownership documents, with a budget of Rs 566.23 crore extended to FY 2025-26. This initiative has facilitated bank loans, minimized land disputes, and boosted Panchayat revenues. The “Meri Panchayat” app now serves 2.65 lakh Gram Panchayats, benefiting 95 crore rural citizens. Supported by the BharatNet broadband program, these digital efforts empower rural communities and enhance accountability. Recent awards, including a Gold Award to Rohini in Maharashtra, exemplify the success of these initiatives. Overall, these steps contribute to a “Digital Bharat,” bridging the digital divide and enabling greater rural participation in India’s digital landscape.
