The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has launched APPS (AI Platform for Personal Safety), aimed at enhancing the safety of individuals under protective orders. This innovative solution addresses the limitations of traditional emergency response systems by utilizing AI for threat detection and hybrid positioning. APPS can accurately identify potential danger and send automated SOS alerts, leveraging biometric data from a personal safety smartwatch. It integrates various technologies, including AI-powered positioning that achieves 30-meter horizontal and 3-meter vertical accuracy, crucial in challenging environments. The system also deploys drones for effective search operations in difficult terrains, enhancing rescue efficiency and reducing officer workload. Initially implemented in South Korea, APPS will extend to disaster safety networks and private safety sectors, promoting broader social protection. Designed with human rights and privacy at its core, the platform minimizes sensitive data collection while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, making it a significant advancement in public safety technology.
