Assessing the impact of AI tools on mobility and daily assistance for children with down syndrome in Saudi Arabia

A study assessing the impact of AI-powered assistive tools on children with Down syndrome in Saudi Arabia revealed several key findings. Utilizing quantitative data from 123 participants and qualitative insights from seven caregiver interviews, the research highlighted the demographics of AI tool users and non-users. Gender had minimal influence on adoption, but higher education levels and income were linked to increased usage. Children aged 5-10 represented the majority of users, while younger, non-users faced more challenges integrating AI. Results indicated that AI users reported significantly lower difficulties in household tasks, communication, and mobility compared to non-users. However, barriers such as cost, technical support, and child adaptability limited broader adoption. Qualitative interviews reinforced these findings, emphasizing emotional relief for caregivers and the need for financial aid and training programs. Overall, AI tools show promise in enhancing daily independence and quality of life for children with Down syndrome, but accessibility challenges persist.
