Exploring Reuters’ Innovative Agentic AI Video Experiment

0

Reuters is innovating its video production process by integrating AI technology, recently hiring its first AI video producer. Traditionally focused on text workflows, Reuters is now leveraging agentic AI to enhance video editing. Rob Lang, AI editor, highlighted that the AI can generate “wrap edits” by selecting key video segments, which could revolutionize the editing workflow. Human oversight remains crucial for final edits, ensuring quality control.

With 60% of Reuters’ newsroom adopting AI, efforts are underway to reach full integration by year-end. However, some staff remain hesitant about AI’s relevance. Lang emphasized practical applications, like using AI for everyday tasks.

While AI is utilized extensively for production tools—such as a headline builder and draft creators—fact-checking remains a manual process due to AI limitations. To address this, Reuters is developing a RAG retrieval database for reliable content verification. Lang’s team continues to explore AI’s potential, paving the way for future advancements in journalism.
