Apple has launched the public beta of iOS 26.4, a significant mid-cycle update introducing new features and enhancements. While the next-generation Siri, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, may delay, CarPlay now supports third-party conversational AI. Key features include video playback when vehicles are stationary, which requires car manufacturers to enable this capability for each model. The Apple TV app will mirror experiences from other devices, allowing users to view their libraries and AirPlay videos with touch controls. Additionally, iOS 26.4 adds a new category of “Voice-based conversational apps” for CarPlay, enabling tools like ChatGPT to be used hands-free. Users can interact solely through voice commands without replacing Siri’s functionality. Other notable updates include AI-generated playlists in Apple Music, enhanced stolen device protection, enriched Apple Health data, and improved personal hotspot monitoring. These beta updates are available now, although caution is advised when installing on primary devices.
