At the annual ‘Hon Hai Tech Day’ in Taiwan, Foxconn showcased its ambitions in artificial intelligence (AI) as it seeks to transition from being the largest Apple iPhone assembler. The company, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI, focusing on AI hardware design and prototyping in the U.S. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized the collaboration’s potential, stating that insights gained would benefit the AI industry. Foxconn’s server business has become its primary revenue driver, contributing to record profits in the recent quarter. The company also announced partnerships with Intrinsic (an Alphabet unit) for developing “AI factories,” and deepened its work with Nvidia to expedite advanced AI infrastructure deployment. Despite concerns over a potential AI bubble, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu expressed confidence in sustained demand for AI hardware, underscoring the necessity of robust system and component suppliers for future progress in AI technologies.
