The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has issued a warning about a sophisticated scam involving a fraudulent mobile application named “Nepse AI.” This app deceptively claims to leverage artificial intelligence for guaranteed high stock market returns. Victims are attracted by flashy online advertisements, leading to significant financial loss; one individual reportedly lost Rs 2.86 million shortly after installation.
The scam operates by gaining remote access to victims’ phones through malicious software like AnyDesk or TeamViewer, allowing cybercriminals to steal banking credentials and drain accounts. The CIB urges the public to be vigilant, avoiding suspicious links and apps. They recommend enabling two-factor authentication, changing passwords regularly, and only downloading applications from verified sources like Google Play or the App Store. This incident highlights the critical need for enhanced online security amid rising cybercrime.
