Prominent academic Chen Lijie, an assistant professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at UC Berkeley, has joined OpenAI, focusing on mathematical reasoning. Chen, an alumnus of Tsinghua University’s prestigious Yao Class, gained recognition for his contributions to theoretical computer science, particularly in computational complexity theory. His involvement in the groundbreaking research paper “Why Language Models Hallucinate” highlights his expertise in addressing challenges within AI models.
Born in 1995, Chen achieved notable success in informatics competitions, including winning a gold medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics. After completing his Ph.D. at MIT, where he addressed significant open problems in quantum complexity, he joined UC Berkeley and collaborated with leading figures in the field.
