Google has launched a beta feature called ‘Personal Intelligence’ for Gemini AI, allowing it to access user data from Gmail, Photos, and YouTube to provide tailored responses. Exclusively for paying Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US, this feature can pull specific information, like retrieving a license plate from a photo or suggesting travel plans based on emails. User privacy is prioritized, as the feature is off by default, requiring users to manually connect apps. Importantly, data is not used for training AI models but is accessed temporarily for query fulfillment. Users have the flexibility to disconnect apps or disable the feature anytime. Google has acknowledged limitations, including potential inaccuracies and “over-personalisation,” prompting feedback from beta users. The company plans to expand ‘Personal Intelligence’ to more countries and free users in the future, though it remains unavailable for business or education accounts.
