Gemini AI Upgraded to Support Google Home’s Broadcast Messages Feature

Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, now features a messaging capability for Google Home users, enhancing integration amid the anticipated phase-out of Google Assistant on Android. Initially unveiled last month, this function allows users to broadcast messages via Google Home’s Broadcast feature, previously exclusive to Google Assistant. Community manager Anish K. detailed this rollout, which enables messaging across multiple Nest speakers and smart displays, functioning as a home intercom system. Users can direct messages to specific rooms, devices, or the whole house through the Gemini mobile app. For maximum performance, all devices must connect to the same Wi-Fi and Google account or Family group. Users can send messages like “Broadcast I’m on my way home,” directly through Gemini. However, broadcasts are one-way and won’t support third-party devices. This new feature represents a significant upgrade in user experience for smart home communication.
