Gemini can now tell if an image is AI-generated: Here’s how it works
(HT Tech)

Google’s recent Gemini update addresses the growing confusion surrounding AI-generated images. With the rise of advanced AI visual creation, it’s common for users to question an image’s authenticity. Gemini now includes a built-in image verification tool that identifies whether visuals were created or edited using Google’s AI models. This feature utilizes SynthID, a digital watermarking technology that embeds invisible markers in images generated by Google’s tools. Although Gemini can only verify its own content, it has already watermarked over 20 billion images since SynthID’s 2023 launch. Users can easily check an image by uploading it to Gemini and inquiring, “Was this created by Google AI?” or “Is this AI-generated?” This tool enhances transparency and equips users with the ability to discern the origin of online images. As AI content becomes prevalent, Google aims to improve user awareness and confidence in digital visuals.
