Shopping queries on artificial intelligence (AI) platforms are vastly increasing, indicating a critical channel for advertisers. According to Josh Dreller from marketing agency Skai, we’re entering the “agentic era” of AI, where making purchases through AI will become commonplace. A recent survey shows that Gen Z uses AI for comparison shopping 1.5 times more than Boomers, with 44% versus 30% respectively. Additionally, 29% of Gen Z have made purchases through ChatGPT, contrasting sharply with just 5% of Boomers. The data reveals that 65% of consumers click through AI tools to retailer sites, showcasing a proactive approach to making purchases based on AI recommendations. Generative AI could account for $262 billion in holiday retail revenue by 2025, significantly affecting shopping habits. While many consumers are comfortable with AI conducting research, only 47% trust agentic purchases, with younger generations showing greater confidence in allowing AI to make final decisions.
