Generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) has transitioned from emerging technology to a vital everyday tool, with millions across Europe utilizing platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini. A Eurostat report indicates that about one-third of Europeans aged 16–74 engaged with these AI tools at least once in 2025. Usage varies significantly, ranging from 17% in Turkey to 56% in Norway. Countries like Denmark and Switzerland show higher adoption rates due to their advanced digitalization and tech-savvy populations. Conversely, southern and eastern European nations lag behind, with Italy and Germany falling below the EU average at 20% and 32%, respectively. Notably, personal use of AI (25%) surpasses work-related applications (15%), highlighting a gap in workplace integration amid uncertainty about its benefits. Additionally, only 9% of Europeans used AI for formal education, indicating further opportunities for growth in AI literacy. Understanding these disparities is crucial for fostering broader Gen AI adoption across Europe.
