Making Space, a leading talent acquisition and learning platform, has secured a $500,000 grant from the GitLab Foundation to enhance its Ascend Fellowship. This funding aims to close the disability employment gap by developing AI tools that facilitate access to jobs and economic mobility for disabled professionals. The hybrid initiative combines fellowship programming, transformation of employer systems, and national deployment of AI tools to address systemic barriers like hiring discrimination and inaccessible workplaces. With prior collaborations showing impressive results—including $111 million in projected lifetime earnings from the first cohort—Making Space is set to scale its fellowship program and validate innovative AI tools. The initiative will also focus on integrating disability inclusion training into corporate practices to improve retention and advancement for disabled professionals. Partnering with major brands like Microsoft and Coca-Cola, Making Space connects a network of over 50,000 disabled individuals, fostering career growth and job alignment.
