World, the biometric ID verification project co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched its latest app version, introducing exciting features like encrypted chat and enhanced crypto transactions. Originally founded in 2019 by Tools for Humanity, World aims to establish reliable “proof of human” tools amid an AI-generated digital landscape.
The newly unveiled World Chat, with end-to-end encryption akin to Signal, enables users to communicate securely and discern verified contacts through color-coded bubbles. This interactive feature is part of World’s strategy to create a web3-based economic model, encouraging user engagement, especially within its verification network.
The app’s expanded crypto capabilities let users send and receive digital currency and direct deposit paychecks without prior verification. With innovative verification methods, including self-scanning Orb Minis, World aspires to overcome adoption barriers. Altman aims to authenticate one billion users, addressing the challenge of scaling verification for broader accessibility in a privacy-preserving framework.
