Google flags an AI-powered malware which rewrites itself in real time

Google’s Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) has unveiled a concerning new malware called PROMPTFLUX, which utilizes AI technology similar to Google Gemini, allowing it to rewrite its own code during attacks. This shapeshifting malware adapts and creates new attack methods in real-time, making traditional antivirus solutions nearly ineffective. Currently in the testing phase, PROMPTFLUX hasn’t yet been detected in the wild, but Google has already neutralized its related assets and accounts.

This marks a significant turning point in cybersecurity, as it highlights the emergence of malware capable of self-adaptation, potentially leading to a “black market” for such malicious tools. As hackers leverage advanced AI for attacks, a corresponding race for AI-driven defense strategies is underway, with Google developing a new security framework and counter-AI programs like “Big Sleep” to protect against these evolving threats. The ongoing battle between AI attackers and defenders could redefine digital safety standards.
