Google is enhancing India’s digital safety with innovative features aimed at combating the surge in online scams. The rollout includes on-device scam detection for Pixel 9, leveraging Gemini Nano to analyze calls locally. This feature flags suspicious calls from unknown numbers without compromising user privacy, as it does not record audio or send data to Google. Initially, it supports English, with plans to extend compatibility to other Android devices and additional languages.
Additionally, Google is piloting screen-sharing fraud alerts with major financial apps like Navi, Paytm, and Google Pay, offering real-time notifications to prevent OTP and PIN extraction scams. These initiatives are part of Google’s broader fraud-prevention strategy, which also includes Play Protect restrictions on predatory loan apps and the DigiKavach awareness program. By deploying advanced AI tools, Google aims to safeguard millions in India from the increasing prevalence of digital fraud.
