Google recently unveiled “switching tools,” a feature designed to facilitate the transfer of “memories” and chat histories from other chatbots to its AI, Gemini. According to Google, the memory import capability allows users to bring essential preferences, relationships, and personal details into Gemini seamlessly. This feature enhances user experience by eliminating the need to re-educate the assistant about their history and preferences.
To import memories, users can navigate to Settings and select the import option, where they will receive prompts to generate summaries from existing chat applications. Additionally, for chat histories, users can upload conversations in a zip file format, a feature supported by various chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude. This strategy aims to attract users from competitors like OpenAI, which boasts 900 million weekly active users compared to Gemini’s 750 million monthly users. The introduction of these tools reflects Google’s commitment to improving user engagement and experience with AI.
