Google has launched two innovative features for its AI chatbot, Gemini: Import Memory and Import Chat History. Designed for users discontent with retraining new AI systems, these tools enable seamless transfer of individual chat histories and preferences from competitors like ChatGPT and Claude. By allowing users to easily copy-paste data, Google removes the friction associated with switching AI assistants, directly challenging the user lock-in advantages held by OpenAI and Anthropic.
Users simply utilize pre-written prompts to extract summaries of their existing interactions and preferences from their current AI, which they can then import into Gemini. The Import Chat History feature takes it a step further, allowing users to transfer entire conversation threads. This strategic move comes as the AI chatbot landscape shifts toward enhancing user stickiness, emphasizing the need for continued personalization. With these new tools, Google aims to redefine user loyalty in the competitive AI landscape.
