The internet is currently captivated by the trend of creating vintage and retro-style portraits from personal photos, enhanced by Google Gemini’s impressive image generation capabilities. This article explores our experimentation with crafting 90’s-inspired AI portraits of two characters using prompts on both Google Gemini and ChatGPT. The results revealed that Gemini consistently produced high-quality retro portraits, fully embodying the Pinterest aesthetic, while ChatGPT struggled with facial feature accuracy but excelled in creating suitable backgrounds and lighting.
Gemini outperformed ChatGPT in processing speed, generating images in under 30 seconds compared to ChatGPT’s 5–7 minutes. Gemini specializes in producing detailed, high-resolution images in various artistic styles, while ChatGPT is best used for crafting detailed prompts and scene descriptions. Essentially, Gemini acts as the “AI painter,” while ChatGPT serves as the “AI director,” guiding the creative process without generating high-res images itself. Both systems showcase the captivating world of AI-generated art.
