Google Labs has launched Opal, a no-code tool available in the U.S. that allows users to create AI-powered mini-applications effortlessly. Currently in public beta, Opal streamlines the app development process by enabling users to describe their desired functionalities in natural language. It transforms these inputs into a visual workflow, highlighting interconnected tasks like user inputs and AI model calls.
Opal features two interaction modes: conversational, where users can adapt workflows via natural language; and visual, which provides a drag-and-drop interface for modifying steps. Once completed, applications can be shared through a unique link, promoting collaboration among users.
The platform also offers starter templates for ease of customization. Market experts suggest that Opal positions Google competitively against Microsoft’s Power Platform and Copilot Studio in the no-code AI app development space. Ultimately, Opal aims to enhance productivity by enabling rapid prototyping of AI concepts while gathering user feedback for future improvements.
