Google rolls out Gemini AI on Google TV with TCL’s QM9K series

Google’s Gemini AI assistant is set to revolutionize television interactions by integrating into Google TV, starting with TCL’s new QM9K series. This groundbreaking integration allows users to engage in conversations rather than merely issuing basic voice commands. Beyond simple requests like changing channels or volume, Gemini enables viewers to ask for show recommendations, recaps, and even cooking tips. Initially rolling out on TCL QM9K models equipped with advanced hardware, the feature will expand to more devices, including the Google TV Streamer and other major brands by 2025. Activation is user-friendly, via the “Hey Google” phrase or remote control’s microphone button, with responses displayed onscreen and audibly. However, rollout will be gradual, limited by geography and device capabilities, with some advanced features dependent on hardware specs. As competitors like Samsung and LG enhance their AI TV offerings, Google’s strategic move with Gemini aims to solidify its position in the smart TV market.
