Google Maps can now write captions for your photos using AI

Google is enhancing its Maps platform with new features to simplify local knowledge contributions. Notably, its Gemini tool can now generate captions for photos or videos users wish to share. When users select images, Gemini analyzes them to provide caption suggestions, which can be edited or removed. Currently available in English on iOS in the U.S., this feature will soon expand globally and to Android. Additionally, users can access their recent photos directly from the “Contribute” tab by enabling media access in their phone settings. Google emphasizes that these shared visuals help users grasp a location’s atmosphere or offerings. Users can also track their contributions with total points visible in the “Contribute” tab, and their Local Guide levels will be showcased on profiles. Updated achievement badges help highlight user expertise, enhancing recognition among the 500 million contributors boosting Google Maps’ accuracy and relevance.
