Google has officially integrated Gemini AI into Google Maps, replacing Google Assistant in navigation mode. This new feature is now available for users on both Android and iOS, following its initial announcement earlier this month. A dedicated support page provides details about Gemini’s functionalities. Key enhancements include landmark-based navigation and real-time traffic alerts, though these features are currently limited to the U.S. market with plans for broader availability. The familiar microphone icon has been replaced by the Gemini spark symbol, allowing users to easily access the AI by tapping the icon or using the voice command “Hey Google.” Gemini enables users to inquire about trip-related details like nearby restaurants and parking options. Additionally, Android users can enjoy deeper interactions within Maps, such as connecting with other apps and managing calendar events. Notably, Gemini can understand contextual and follow-up questions, enhancing the overall navigation experience.
