In the latest beta version of Google Maps (25.41.03.815390258), a new Gemini integration has been activated, indicating a shift from Google Assistant to Gemini for hands-free navigation controls. Although this feature isn’t part of the user-facing version yet, its rollout seems imminent. Users can tap the microphone icon to access Gemini, marked by a spark icon once activated. Unlike Google Assistant, Gemini offers advanced functionalities; it can alter routes to bypass highways or tolls without manual adjustments and respond to inquiries beyond navigation, such as weather updates. This integration promotes efficient navigation experiences through voice commands, allowing seamless, hands-free interaction. Additionally, once activated, users can modify Gemini settings directly through the Maps interface. While these features stem from an APK teardown and may not guarantee a public release, they highlight the ongoing enhancements in Google Maps and Gemini’s potential to elevate user engagements in navigation scenarios.
