ChatGPT is now handling an impressive 2.5 billion prompts daily, reflecting its growing popularity as an AI tool. Comparatively, Google processes approximately 14 billion searches per day, translating to about five trillion yearly queries. Reports suggest that 330 million of ChatGPT’s prompts come from U.S. users, indicating a shift away from traditional search engines toward AI for answers. Since December 2024, ChatGPT’s usage has more than doubled, rising from one billion daily prompts, showcasing its rapid growth and user adoption. However, questions remain about the economic sustainability of ChatGPT for OpenAI, especially since the majority of its over 500 million weekly active users utilize the free version, limiting revenue generation. Despite this challenge, the surge in daily interactions suggests that AI platforms may substantially change the future landscape of search engines, putting pressure on established giants like Google to innovate.
