Google is enhancing the Google Translate app by integrating AI to facilitate language learning, competing with platforms like Duolingo. Users can now tap the “Practice” button, select their proficiency level—Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced—and specify their learning purpose. The AI then curates a personalized course, offering tailored listening and speaking exercises. Currently, the feature is in beta for Android and iOS, focusing on English speakers learning Spanish and French, and vice versa.
Additionally, Google Translate introduces a new Live Translation feature, enabling real-time conversations in over 70 languages, including Arabic and Hindi. This tool provides audio and transcription support during discussions, improving communication even in noisy environments like airports. Users can enjoy a more natural dialogue, although AI-generated audio may not match their voice or tone. This innovative combination positions Google Translate as a powerful resource for both language learning and real-time translation.
