On Thursday, Google unveiled a comprehensive AI safety strategy for India, focusing on protecting children, teenagers, and older adults. Key initiatives include on-device real-time anti-scam tools, text watermarking, and digital literacy programs aimed at creating a safer AI ecosystem. The Scam Detection feature, powered by Gemini Nano, will be available on Pixel phones to identify potential scams during calls from unknown numbers, ensuring privacy by not recording audio or sharing data. Google also introduced the SynthID Detector and made the SynthID watermarking tool open-source to aid in recognizing AI-generated content. Additionally, Google pledged $200,000 to the CyberPeace Foundation to enhance AI-driven cyber-defence tools and support safer online learning settings. With a $1 million grant to five APAC think tanks, Google aims to address AI challenges while maintaining user trust in India’s booming digital economy. This holistic approach integrates innovative technologies with user empowerment and responsible governance.
